2012 Celebration at Active Ashfield Sports Awards

Ollie Hynd’s Paralympic success in the Aquatics Centre at the Olympic Park earned him the Active Ashfield Junior Disabled Sportsperson Award. ‘Team Hynd’’ including coaches, support staff, Sutton Swimming Club and parents, Darrell and Helen Hynd received a Special 2012 Recognition Award.

Special Recognition Awards for achievements in 2012 were also presented to Allen Urch from Sutton Swimming Club, in recognition of being awarded an MBE for services to swimming in the New Years’ Honours List and to Georgia Zadins fromSelstonHigh School, who was an official London 2012 Torchbearer in June.

The event included performances from Ashfield’s Gotta Dance and Ashfield’s Got Talent winners Niamh Keeling and Georgia Nussey, both from Sutton-in-Ashfield and Sutton’s Jack Smith also led a martial arts demonstration with his Little Dragons.

  • Secondary School Team – Nartional Academy U16 (Football)
  • Team - Sutton Sting ENL
  • Junior Team - Sutton Sting U14
  • Club - Sutton Sting Ice Hockey Club
  • Everyone Active Change 4 Life Awards – David White, Joanne Hook, Ivan Sansom
  • Service to Sport –Carol Hallam
  • Active Ashfield Volunteer Awards – Megan Smith and Chloe Wilson (Silver), Sam Burnham, Keeny Oxley, Carol Travis (Gold) and Rebecca Beer (Platinum)
  • Active Ashfield Club Awards –HucknallTown Netball Club (Gold and ClubMark), Ashfield Allstars Cheerleaders (Silver) andEast Midlands Cheer Elite (Bronze)
  • Gold Card  - Rhiannon Linacre (Golf)

Co-presenter Andrew James, from BBC Sport said ‘It is great to recognise the array of Ashfield’s talented people of all ages and abilities during this great year of sport. Ashfield certainly has lots to be proud of.’
