Adults should aim to take part in at least 150 minutes of moderate intensity exercise per week. There are number of opportunities available in Ashfield to help you achieve the recommended levels.

Active Ashfield Exercise Referral Scheme

This scheme aims to encourage referred patients in the Ashfield area to lead a healthy lifestyle through physical activity and exercise. There are a number of activities available for you to take part in including gym sessions, tai chi, aqua and other exercise classes. In order to take part in the scheme you will need to be referred by a medical professional i.e. GP, Physio.

Walking for health

Walking is a cost effective way to get active and meet new people. It is ideally suited for people who are returning to exercise. There are a number of walking opportunities available for both beginners and established walkers within Ashfield. We also provide support and free training for volunteers and community groups who are interested in setting up new walks and becoming a trained Walk Leader.

Strokeability Programmes

Strokeability is an exercise session specifically available for people who are living with stroke. This programme is delivered by a qualified exercise instructor and all exercises are tailored to each individuals ability.

Active Ashfield Games

This event is inspired by London 2012 to increase participation levels in sport across Ashfield. The games includes a variety of free activities for adults and children to get involved in including it’s a knock out, hockey, netball and dance. Push 4 Fitness sessions

These are exercise sessions designed specifically for parents with young chidlren who use a push chair. They involve a fitness walk alongside muscle toning exercises to improve fitness and increase muscle strength. The sessions are accesible for push chairs which removes the barrier of child care.
