400 people attended the Active Ashfield Sports Awards Evening at the Festival Hall Leisure Centre in Kirkby-in-Ashfield to celebrate the achievements of Ashfield’s sporting hero’s and Change 4 Life successes.
The event, sponsored by NHS Nottinghamshire County, saw the introduction of the Ashfield Change Life Award for the first time. Recipients of the award were Harry Hempshall, Megan Atkins and Harry Townsend all who have attended local MEND (Mind, Exercise, Nutrition, Do it!) classes and made really positive changes to their lifestyles.
Paralympic Champion Sam Hynd picked up the Disabled Sportsperson Award for the second year in a row and his younger brother, Oliver was awarded Junior Disabled Sportsperson. Both awards were collected by Dad, Darrell, due to the brothers both competing in the National Short Course Swimming Champions in Sheffield over the Weekend. The brothers continued their great form in Sheffield - Sam broke the European Record in 100m Freestyle and World Record in 100m Individual medley taking 3 Golds and 2 Silver!! Ollie gained Personal Best times and took Silver in 50m Breaststroke!!.
